For starters, I know NOTHING about tracking. I do plan on training my GSD to track though.
When I go for walks, should I give the correction to tell my dog to not pull? I thought that maybe by doing this, it will prevent him from pulling during later tracking events.
It seems when I watch dogs track, they occassionally pull their handlers while they do their thing.
I teach all my dogs "EASY" when they pull on walks. I don't use real strong corrections, just little pops so they aren't dragging me. Even puppies can learn this really fast and then it transfers over to tracking.
I use a low, calming tone and when the dog/puppy gives me a little slack in the lead then calm praise....
It works well with the dogs I have trained. Hope this helps.
