I am very confused when I hear people talking about Positive correction. Can some one please explain to me what this is and how do you administer it. If for example you have a dog that is doing something absolutely dreadful what are you going to do in a POSITIVE way to fix a problem? Don’t forget you are talking about POSITIVE CORRECTION.
Thank you.

In my opinion, there is nothing positive about a correction. Its a contradiction of terms. Perhaps you have heard the term "positive punishment" which is a term to mean your standard correction (leash jerk, NO! ect...). Check out this conditioning acticle for more info on the 4 conditioning terms:
If the dog lets say breaks a sit, and you know she knows the command. You correct her by give a jerk on the leash "No Molly sit", place her back in the sit and when she sits and stays for the desired amount of of time you issue praise, "Good sit Molly, good dog". Positive correction after a negative correction.
Correct the actions that you don't want and praise the actions that you want.
The pharse I learned on this board, the training is done through out dog OB training. Concept and application. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Like Jeff, I think you may have meant positive punishment. The phrase positive correction has no meaning. Positive punishment has nothing to do with it being "positive" in the sense of being a good thing, a pleasant thing. Positive and negative refer to adding or taking away; positive punishment adds an aversive stimulus in order to weaken behavior while negative punishment takes away a pleasant stimulus in order to weaken behavior. Positive and negative have the same meaning when used in conjunction with reinforcement as well.
I was trying to understand what he was saying? By Positive correction, I wasn't defining the term, just asking is this what you mean?
Positive/Negative Correction or Punishment are terms that I am not familar with. I think I've over hear them used in some of training sessions, that I've attended. But were not interested in it's fractional decomposing concept.
But the thought of re-enforcing the actions that are good with positive/praise, letting the dog know that he has done well. Is what I thought he was leaning toward, probably too simply a conclusion.
Dialogue is what is important here, I'm not sure I can use the solution. I hope he can.
Adam, confusing huh? I just stick with correction-praise. corrections correct a behavior or action and praise is, well praise for a job well done. Just keeping it simple.
Thanks, to all that have answered.
You have reinforced my beliefs that there is no POSITIVE CORECTION. I believe in correction praise when training my dogs but you often hear of the animal activists I guess, who talk about POSITIVE correction. I even had the director of R.S.P.C.A. (Royal society prevention cruelty of animals) tell me, that I should use positive correction when I asked if Prong collars are legal in Australia. So I asked her, what is a positive correction? She replied that she didn’t know, and that I should ask a trainer. I’ll keep using my prong collars and POSITIVE PRAISE it works for me.

You are right there is NO positive correction, but there is a lot of animal lib. people that decided on the term as something to describe tat they don't appreciate any sort of correction that causers discomfort for the animal you should use praise and be kind to get you’re point across.
Of cause I am NOT ONE OF THEM thank god.
Thank you all this is very refreshing.
