I am impressed too! Beautiful focus, particularly considering the age. If you are interested in schutzhund, I would start working him in it sooner rather than later. I do both AKC obedience and SchH simultaneously without any problems and when it comes to things like tracking, I find it is helpful to start them out when they are younger.
Yes I meant to say 10 weeks I guess my mind was fast fowarding. I have been doing shutzhund work with him as well but to be honest I've been slacking on the tracking part. I did some early imprint work but I haven't continued with it. I've been focusing on obedience, agility, and aggression type work. I don't really know why but that's just what I've been doing. I'm excited about learning all the different things that are out there. I'm actually a K9 handler but I have a single purpose drug dog. My department is stuck in the ways of compulsion training primarily an not willing to venture out that much, hopefully training thoughts will change in the future.
He's a GSD... I should be more clear...Agilty that I do is basicly crawling under things and climbing on a catwalk, nothing extensive that requires any jumping unless it's really short. By saying agression I mean bark and hold, working on his grip, blind search, chasing the decoy, things of that nature. Aggression my not be the best word...civil agitation mybe better?
Constatntly exposing him to different things to build his confidence.
Alyssa, it is a nice young GSD that is definitely ready for the BH and is doing very nice motion exercises. Very focused and responsive.
Reggie, you are doing great! Keep the bite work easy and all prey (call it... foundation bite work...) and keep the jumping out of the equation for the next eight months or so…
As Jessica said, at this age, I would keep the bitework all prey.
There's PLENTY of time later for agitation and defense work.
Starting too early can yield great results very quickly, but can cause long term problems.
Very nice work, moreover the dog seems happy while working. I noticed you were not using handler help for his motion exercises. This is a good for you to continue because because handler help is a bad habit and can, even if the dog doesn't need it, show itself to your detriment, while trialing.
Very nice focus Reggie. My only question is your about turns. I think(think) you have to turn to the left in SCH as far as I know but I could be wrong.
