Just wondering what anyone suggest to take care of this issue. From what I have read it can be yeast and popular in pits which mine is. When I spread her toes apart it's red in color and they stink really bad. She hasn't stunk before so I'm just wondering what anyone suggest. I would rather not take her to the vet for something I can take care of.

Hi Chris,
2 questions:
What are you feeding your dog, and can you describe the smell?
And a 3rd one! Is she chewing on them?

Is the dog licking or biting at the feet?

Yes, but "corn-chip feet" or "popcorn paws" is normal... red and noticably odourous is not ... especially if she is chewing on them.

Danke's feet smell like Fritos. I could smell 'em for hours.
But I love "that dog smell" that people are always complaining about too. I smile when I get into my Jeep and smell Danke's scent in there.
The red is concerning, though. And I wouldn't call the Frito smell "Stinky" by any measure.

Red discolouration is often a sign that the dog is licking the feet excessively due to pain, itching etc - the excessive licking can predispose the feet to yeast and/or bacterial infection(that causes the stink) etc which irritates it more and causes more itching(and more licking)... You are going to have to treat the symptoms and try and find the underlying causes of what is irritating the feet (mechanical abrasion, allergy, reaction to damp conditions, underlying medial condition...etc)
For any of these conditions you want to maintain the feet in a dry healthy condition. I used to get a topical ointment http://www.theanimalpharmacy.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=151 from my vet that quickly alleviated the symptoms. You still might want to investigate other things allergies, diet etc to alleviate the cause.

I feed her Orijen (chicken) She isn't chewing on them at all and they don't seem to bother her. More of a sweaty stinky smell, its hard to put into words but not frito's or popcorn

There was something about an odor and it turned out to be a thyroid condition I think. But, popcorn smell by itself seems to be the norm..
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |

Chris, she isn't haven't any ear problems or other areas of her body that are stinky? The stinky paws may be from a yeast overgrowth, or a bacterial overgrowth.
Here are a couple of simple things you could try; if it clears up, great. If not, get the vet to swab them and do a culture.
Firstly, if you are not giving her probiotics, start giving on a daily basis (added to her food). Unflavored, unsweetened yogurt w/ live cultures. A couple of tablespoonsful a day. Or probiotic capsules, if you prefer...
You can try an apple cider vinegar foot wash. Like, in a gallon of water, 1/4 cup of a/c vinegar. Dip her paws or saturate with a cloth. She can lick it and it won't hurt her at all. I would try this for a week, daily. Sometimes yeast can get out of hand when pH is too high. The ACV helps lower the pH, which provides an unfriendly environment for yeast to grow.
