I have an 12mth old GSD, who is hitting the hard sleeve very well, but he is having trouble with the bite suit. He wants to grab the bite suit with the very front of his teeth. Sometimes he just goes up to it and nips at it, almost like he is intimidated by it.
My question is- Is 12mths to young for the bite suit? if not then what can i do to get him to bite it with a firm bite.
It's not an age thing, its a stage-in-training thing. Work with a decoy that knows what he's doing and how to get the dog to bite the suit properly. Either you're rushing the dogs progress or the decoy doesn't know how to work the suit properly.
He may just be confused with not seeing a sleeve. I would take the bite suit jacket and play tug with him (not wearing it) until he gets used to it and is biting full.
