Lacey vomited about six times this morning after a short run, took her to the vet; but my concern is that I had fed her (raw) at 9:00 p.m. & her vomit (at 8:00 a.m.)had pieces of chicken bone in it. Shouldn't that have been digested already? She had a normal stool during this exercise period. Concerned about a blockage, or any advice appreciated.
Thank You,
Theresa

Kasey has vomited the next morning a few times and had bone pieces in it - he even ate at 5pm the night before. It happens sometimes when he eats leg quarters - I think the bones are thicker than backs and breasts, so once in a while he has trouble with them and throws them back up hours later.
What chicken pieces did you feed?

Thank You Lori for your reply,
She had 3 chicken breasts (breast meat cut off at butchers, but still nice meat bone ratio) & small bit of liver. She had run some, then got nice drink at the creek, wanted to run more (I pace her at 2 times around a fenced in baseball dimond then water her at the creek) was getting ready to walk home, & she started vomiting. The vet checked her out, with raised eyebrows about the "raw" (heard the whole staff talking that!!lol) but couldn't compliment enough on her condition, ect ect!!!
He gave her a shot for the vomiting & told me to watch her rest of the day. If she starts again, emergency clinic will be only option.
Really worried me is the pieces of bone, thank you for answering!

What did the vet say? Is the dog back home? Is the dog acting OK except for vomiting? How big were the bone pieces in the vomitus?
Yes, I have seen pieces of smoothened thigh bones with one of mine, too.

The vet checked her out really well, did blood test for dehydration, temp, eyes, ears, resperation ect -- all ok.
He did say she seemed a little sensitive when he felt her gut, I had done the same thing before/& why I took her to vet.
He said it could be 400 different things. Mentions pancreatis?
Gave her shot of metoclopramide for vomiting; with directions for no water for 4 hours; with no further vomiting, re-introduce water by giving 1 cup ever 1/2 hour; withhold food for 8 hours.
Then after withholding period, if no vomiting, 1/2 normal amount of food this evening & normal feeding Sunday.
Thank you Connie,
Theresa

Answering rest of question of Connie's:
She's home, sleeping after all this (& shot), acting normal; but during this vomiting period, didn't seem like she was going to stop, I mean she vomited at least 4-5 times, I called some guys at the part over to watch her as she was still trying to vomit & ran home ( 4 houses away) got my car, when I was back she was up, normal (asked them if she just tried to follow me?) I think they indicated she vomited maybe more -- them called vet & had her in.
The bone peices weren't real big, they had been chewed up well, she isn't a gulper.
hope I answered all.
Thank for your help!

If the bone pieces were very small, it doesn't sound like they triggered the vomiting.
So what did?
What was the creek water like? Ice cold? Clean?
Did the dog ever have a vomiting bout before? Had she been into trash? Grabbed anything off the ground at the park?
Acute pancreatitis is often triggered by cooked or rancid fat. I had a dog who had a terrible bout of it from roadkill -- just a bite or two, max -- that landed her in the hospital on fluid support. With the tender abdomen, I'd think of that too.
So ... nothing in the food you mentioned would be suspicious. an you think of any opportunity she has had to get into trash or roadkill? Or has she been taken care of by someone who might have fed something rich?
