Dack is now 4 months and a half doing great in 2 classes he is about now 50 pounds and will grow to much more. He is terrific but tons of energy The puppy class I attend is on clicker training and my basic obedience has a prong on him ( no choker)
This dog walk great on loose leash with the clicker but storms out of the house and car I am not very big and he pulls too much when i showed up for puppy class (and I do like the trainer) no prong was allowed, the gentle leader was suggested, I need someething quick for short in and out, Would love some feedback...My dog is a beauceron.

out of curiosity, and because im confused...you are in a puppy class, and also a beginner OB class..with the same dog??
what are they working on that is different??
as far as storming out of the house and car, like the rest, mark what you want. if you have to leave the house way earlier, to WAIT until he calms down before taking another step, do it. same with the car, show up 10 minutes earlier, and don't even let him out of the car door until hes thinking about what hes supposed to do. take that time to work with him You can even get there early, and ask your trainer to work on exiting car and house manners with the dog...

both classes are working on similar behaviors, i just got him in puppy class earlier because he was too young for the other class, they have just different ideas I am used to the prong, the first trainer is against it and suggest the gentle leader instead
I have had shephers and dobe before and i know some basics I was interested on views about the 2 methods

personally, i don't like head collars. it will NOT stop your dog from charging out of the car door, look at its design.
if you were to use it for rushing out of the car, you would have to reach in, grab it right where the part that hangs down under the chin connects to the leash, and pull(push, from your angle) the dog back into the car..if that makes sense.
you might as well use a flat collar, you can do the exact same thing, or you can use your body to block the pup from leaving the car until hes settled, and have him go slower...
crating the pup in the car may help, it will also be safer for the dog.
i am also not a fan of prongs on a pup before the pup knows whats what.

One of my neighbors uses the gentle leader and specifically mentioned that her dog charged off and pulled her daughter over while wearing it. My only other experience with it is seeing her walk her dog. Seems to work nicely, but clearly didn't stop unwanted behavior when in the wrong hands. I think the dog respects my neighbor and probably not her daughter so much.

Do you have any of Ed's videos? The one (I think it's basic obedience) where he shows how to stop a dog charging out of the gate?
I use the same method in the car and now my dogs politely wait for me to tell them they are allowed to hop out.
In fact, I had an adopter call and tell me one of my former foster dogs was great except he wouldn't get out of the car! LOL.
The idea is that you get out, then stand there with your hand on the door and do not open the door until he is calm. Then you ask for a sit/stay and start to open the door. If he breaks, say 'uh-uh' and close the door immediately. (do NOT slam the door or close it all the way, just close it so the dog can't get out). When he is sitting, start to open it again until eventually you can open it all the way and he stays in a sit. Then release him to hop out.
At first it will look a bit like you are using the car door as a fan, haha. I have not had to do this for more than a few minutes before the dog caught on.
It is helpful to see this on video, because I don't think my description paints a very good picture. But hopefully it gives you a good idea.
ANd just like Mallory said, do not reward behaviour you do not want. If the dog is charging, he doesn't get to go forward until he is calm. If he charges the car door, he doesn't get to hop out until he is calm.

Thank you all for your help I love this forum.
I do have Ed video I am still wacthing them, I have the puppy basic obedience and dominant dogs. Dack is starting to sit stay on command and this morning was the first time i did exactly the stay and close door if he doen not stay, it worked. I need consistency. Dack walks on a loose leash (without anything but a flat collar for about 2 blocks He is very strong and when he goes it is hard to stop him with the flat collar.
Thank you again I will try to post a better picture he is much bigger now and an awesome dog.
