Hello.
I have a questions for all owners/trainers who use e-collars -
1.
Do you get 'accidental stimulations' from the collar. e.g. the collar would 'go off' and stim. the dog by itself (but only for a split second)?
The manual DID mention the collar might do that, and it IS VERY occasional e.g. once every 2-3 outings. Also, the collar is fully charged and working well in every other aspect.
I've been using a
DT Systems Micro IDT Z3000 Dog Training Collar
and it's been very successful for recall for my (small) dog.
I don't use e-collars of any kind, but I sure wouldn't use a collar that randomly gave my dog a correction out of nowhere for no reason. It isn't fair to the dog.
I use dogtra and have never had this happen nor does the manual say anything about this. I would scrap your collar and get a better collar such as dogtra. I know I have seen Cindy on Ed's website say she uses dogtra as well. In my opinion they are by far the best e collar. Invest in a collar that will not only last a long time, but that will not correct your dog unintentionally. Also, their customer service is good.
Better yet, return the product and tell them why you are doing so.
I agree bring it back, thats no way to train your pooch. I have an e collar and that has never happened nor does the manual say that or I wouldn't have gotten it.
This thread just brings to the forefront of how important the correct tools are in any endevor. Quality is so VERY important.
This is why Ed and Cindy put soo much emphasis on the products they sell. Most times you really "get what you pay for".
The way the stimulation feels is different for every collar and I find the Dogtra to be the most comfortable for dogs and humans alike. The quality of the Tritronics collar is great but you cannot fine tune the stem.
Happy Training,
Roni
thanks everyone for their reply, much appreciated. I will definitely make dogtra the next purchase.
I know a lot of people have a strong view on remote collars, I did too once. And given my dog, I'm glad I have at least taken the step to 'see what it is like'.
