My pittyx graduated from beginner AKC OB last night. SHe did everything well and then came the group sit stay. We were put next to a dog from a different class and he was eyeballing her and then growling at her. He was moved across from us and digaonal. So I get her into her sit walk to the end of the leash and get myself situated. I hear the other dog whining and the sound of him jumping and move to stand more diagonal so my dog cannot make eye contact with Mr. Spazo (ok his name was Rufus and it was his second time through the beginner classed having failed the first time). She barks at him giving her a -5. SHe ended up fourth in the class and as the "judge" handed me the ribbon she said,"She had it until the sit." I signed her up for the next class beginner advanced. I was kind of *issed that she lost points because of another dog, but hey it was only beginner class and she can give it another try in the next class. The trainer said that dog riles up many dogs. BTW The winner was a Malinois but it had long hair and a different name I think it was Tervuren
Congratulations Michelle. It is very gratifying when a dog ignores such behavior as they type your boy did! Even though this sounds like a graduation sort of competition, I question why the trainer did not put a stop to the Terv's behavior if the owner did not. He/She did nothing to benefit the Terv or its owner by allowing that behavior to go uncorrected. Good luck in the next class and hopefully the Terv won't be next to you next time around :-)
Michelle, that kind of occurence happened to me at an AKC Obedience trial. During the Long Down, a dog rolled on its stomach clear accross the ring in front of all the other dogs. Normally when a dog breaks the long sit or down, the stewart grabs it, takes it out of the ring and hands it over to the owner.
Sometimes that doesn't happen. Consider your graduation practice for a trial.
