Hi everyone, I have a question if anyone here can help. I sold a horse to a person and was offered to take a German Shepherd puppy as a partial down payment. The person bought both the sire and dam as titled adults from Eurosport K9 and bred them, this is the litter the puppy is from. I fell in love with a little sable female that is VERY intense and follows me like a shadow, she is perpetual motion but very sharp and rsponsive at 13 weeks. I have German Showline shepherds and she is different, both mentally and physically, she resembles a Coyote puppy with the same quickness! LOL I was wondering if any of you have dogs from this breeder and if so what can I expect as far as temperament and type? I have a beautiful 10 week old Showline puppy from Alta Tollhaus and they are NIGHT and DAY different!!!
haha. There is no comparison between working line and show line. I don't even know where to begin. Just keep on reading as much as you can about working line dogs on this forum and website, and watch videos on youtube of working line puppies and adults working in Schutzhund. Then look here to compare the working line dogs to the show line Schutzhund dogs just as a gauge for how vastly different they are:
As far as Eurosport K9 is concerned, they are a pretty good/reputable breeder/importer of working line dogs. I believe Czech lines but I could be wrong.
Personally, from a general trainability standpoint, I'd rather train a working line dog over a show line any day. My show line seems to have selective hearing and forgets what a correction was 2 seconds after it was given. His obedience is awful because he simply doesn't care to listen. A working line dog is more willing to perform and values tangible rewards far more than the average show line.
I've seen half a dozen dogs that have come from Eurosport K9. ALL have been very nice dogs, including the mother of my older GSD. She was bred over there and my dog was born here.
If this is your first working line dog I would advise you to put your seat belt on, hold onto you hat and don't stand up while the ride is in motion. Enjoy!
My only experience with 'working' showline dogs was when I went to check out a DVG club one time a few years ago. I had to laugh at what these people thought were great dogs. One male the TD bragged on was titled in Germany(SchH 3,) impoted from Germany (he part owned a kennel in Germany)to use to breed here. When I went there I didn't know that these were German showline dogs. He didn't mention that when we spoke & he invited me to come & meet them. I watched some of these dogs work & thought to myself that it was going to be very interesting when they asked me to take my dog out & let them see what she could do. She came out of the truck screaming to work & that should have been a clue to the decoy. Well suffice it to say that their decoy needed to change his tidy-whities after he tried to work my female a couple of times & she was not even 2 1/2 yrs old at the time. She can get really dirty if you don't know what you are doing & can't read her. This guy was way over his head with her. She is a tuff little girl often underestimated by decoys due to her small size of only 63 lbs. She is fast & hits hard & bites hard. Needless to say, they didn't invite me back. :-)
Welcome to the world of WORKING LINE GSDs. Like Bob said, hang on for the ride. It's a great trip.
I have a friend that has a very nice Mal from Eurosport.

Showline or workingline, I can't imagine that trying to raise two puppies at the same time is a very good idea (for most people, anyway).
I understand that, but as someone who has 7 dogs and 7 horses I'm not most people, I know how to handle multiples of both species, I just joined a Schutzhund Club, and while that arena is new to me, dogs aren't, I've been pretty active for the last 20 years. I keep the puppies seperate as the Showline will be doing conformation as well as Schutzhund, the working line will only do Schutzhund. I also have a few terriers and have enjoyed Earthdog sports with them, I no longer show my horses and just pleasure ride and occasionally breed a mare. I LOVE competing with my animals

I raised 2 working line puppies simultaneously. Thank god for a really nice kennel setup or that would have been a nightmare.
Never again though. 1 puppy at a time.
I hear you!!! I have a pretty nice kennel set-up on one side of the property and I also have converted some of my box stalls into dog stalls on the other side of the property, this way no one goes crazy when I'm working one section. I agree though, I would normally just raise one puppy at a time, this opportunity just presented and I really liked the puppy.
