I may start training a 10 month old boxer for a 74 yr old lady who has had multiple spinal surgeries. My first thought is that this is NOT the right dog for her, but she has 2 older boxers that she trained herself b4 her health problems, and does not want to place the dog. I have yet to meet the dog & assess the situation, but does anyone have any advice????
I will probably get her started with a halti, even though I hate the d@amn things - I have a feeling that if I pull out a prong collar she'll throw a fit, but she needs some way to control the dog w/out hurting herself when I'm not around.
Bet
Being that she has some experince in dog training she may know the benifit of the pong collar. I'd introduce both control devises to her and stress what you think would be best and why. Tell her after you evaluate her new trainee what temperment the puppy has and why she will need your prescribed kind of control methods. Of course check out her presence and command of the other dogs she has trained. Some people have such a presence that they can command a dog and the dog knows they mean business.
Three dogs is a load for even a fit person, let at lone three active boxers. Just feeding and caring for even more if you plan to train them all. Check them all out and enhance the quailty that are there. She may understand what you are doing she is just ill and needs some help starting this young one out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
