Hi everyone. Has anyone heard of dogs getting their hair dyed? I have seen on U Tube that some have their dogs hair dyed by groomers. Gosh, there was one that had their dog, that had very thick hair(dont know the breed), dyed to look like a panda bear.

AKC from what I've seen tends to ignore the issue. My lab has bolo spots (spots on the feet) which depending on the judge is a fairly serious fault or a sign of good breeding. When I asked about confirmation showing with her I had several people say just use a permanent marker, ink, or hair dye to fix the issue because "they know people" or "it's what they do." Altering a dog to deceive a judge is cheating.
As far as plain old dyeing dogs for fun. Yep, I've done it once with one of my papillons where I dyed him smurf blue. It's not a difficult product to use. It took about 6 weeks for all the dye to disappear.
It's a trend in poodles and other wee little white dogs in a fair number of countries. I have yet to be asked to do it as a groomer which for me sucks. I have some really fun ideas for bichons and poodles.
posted in the other thread too, but i have used kool-aid on my white crested. it works nicely, and washes out quickly-about 2-3 baths. Know that for me, the red colors faded really fast, but were a royal pain to get washed out completely. The blues/greens, etc came out easy, and stayed brighter longer.
If i dye him again, i plan on trying manic panic-to see how vibrant i can get the color on him.
Although it takes a lot of skill to get a dog looking like that .......how can you hold your head up high when you're groomed to look like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle???
