Sorry mods if this is inappropriate for this forum. Just needed to vent.
Never had a problem with the new neighbors dogs until today. They are on invisible fence collars. No dog containment laws here, so they don't even have to do that.
I usually don't walk or ride by their house because it is a short street, but today Turbo and I needed a quarter of a mile to make it an even four mile ride.
One of the dogs broke through the fence and was on Turbo before I knew it. It was off him by the time I got off my bike. Turbo was tangled up in the leash and bike and the dog came back again. Sucker was fast and got one more bite in. I have no idea how no skin was broken.
We got the hell out of there.
Hopefully when they get home we can work something out because I do not want that dog to be any sort of loose with my 1 year old around.
Holy crap! Poor Turbo Is he okay? That must have been scary as hell for both of you.
Maybe if you discuss vet bills with your neighbors they will be more motivated to come up with a more proactive containment system? Be very clear that you hold them responsible for damages. Who knows, maybe they'll be good neighbors and take responsibility...one can hope.
I don't blaming you for worrying about that dog around your little one.
Kristel, luckily there is no need for medical attention. Turbo is about 15 lbs. and this dog was about 70. Surely they will be able to imagine what kind of damage this dog could inflict on another dog or child, though.
Steve, they own. They drive by my house everyday. That is incentive for me to be cordial. I hope they find that as incentive to make changes.....or they won't be getting a family portrait Christmas card this year.
And thats hopefully their incentive to be civil about it. Do they have any dangerous dog ordinances there? I'd make sure they know just how lucky they are that Turbo is ok and that it wasnt your son. Homeowners insurance gets expensive with a dog like that.
I'm not a fan of the "Invisible Fence". The neighbor one street over had one for his dog. Every time we walk by his house the dog would bark its head off right at the edge of the wire. At some point the battery in the collar went dead and the dog figured it out. It came past the wire, but didn't attack. Starbuck is about 50% bigger than the Boxer and that is probably the only reason.
At some point the dog went away. I haven't seen it for 6-9 months. I don't miss her at all.
