Lisa, Hi. Go into better detail about your dog. Everything from age and what is happening to make you think this way. Breed, where are you training. Any usefull info will help.
Also have you checked into a few different opinions from legit trainers about your dog.
If you're wanting to do Schutzhund with your dog, I would find a club in your area, where more experienced handlers can help evaluate you & your dog, to get advice on how to start your training, and to get pointers on things you may be doing wrong. The social aspect of it is great as well.
Lisa,
Without seeing the dog work, it would be impossible to give you a fair opinion of your dogs working ability. Trainers and fellow handlers would be in a much better position to advise you further if they are watching you and your dog work as a team.
That being said, I would give you a gentle warning or piece of advice. Beware the opinion of someone that tells you to scrap your dog, while at the same time he/she conviniently has a dog for sale to replace yours that "would be just perfect for you!" I see that crap happen all the time to novice handlers.
Grrrr...that just pisses me off. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Jerry, Yes exactly, works in close but not more than 50' or so?
Mike, thanks yes I have started a shutzhund club too. I fear within a short time they too will see this, so much in the beginning in schutzhund is in close. Plus all the pp training is probably making my dog seem more driven than he is.
Will, you have seen my dog twice now??
Thanks
Only you can really answer that question Lisa. When it is no longer fun for you AND the dog, it is probably time to retire the dog. Let him be a house pet. If he is still enjoying the work, but things just aren't going your way, don't give up.
