I recently, (well several months ago) enrolled my 3 year old Female and my 5 month old Male into private professional obedience classes. My Female, Thora, was just horrible on the leash, I hated to and would not walk her. She is strong and pulled me all over the place, she was very dog aggressive, not socialized with animals, very loving with people. I needed to have 100% control over her.
Oh, did I mention that I was walking my dogs with a harness? I had no control over an 80 lb dog, when the leash was clipped down behind her shoulders. Within just a few training sessions, I was just amazed.
The dog picked up on what she was suppose to do much faster then I learned what to do. Timing, Keep moving, when to say "no", when to say "heel", praise, praise, good girl. Heck, I was the one who needed to be trained.
I found this site searching for information about collars, muzzles, training.. there is a whole bunch of conflicting thoughts on training. I was so grateful to have found this site.
Keep the collar high on the neck, correct in different directions depending on what you are correcting for, quick snap when I stop, makes her sit faster. She wants to beat the correction. Not a hard correction, lots of praise.
I am confident I have control over Thora with major distractions while she is wearing the prong.
I was referred to this trainer by a friend of mine in LE and he trains LE K-9s.
