The correct placement of a DD collar is high on the neck behind the ears. Reason being, it gives immediate results. If you put it below the prong then its just a garote for choking out and the effectiveness is negated.
They are designed primarily for controlling very aggressive dogs so if you're using it for something other than that I guess below the prong is OK. If you're working with a very strong animal/handler aggressive dog then it needs to be as high as possible.
If a dog is actively aggressively biting me I want to get him off as soon as possible, not wait for him to be choked out of air. There's going to be more damage the longer he stays on you so I want immediate compliance when the correction is given. JMO
Hi Howard, you're correct, although to my understanding of it, the OP is not planning to use the DD collar as a corrective collar. Only as a back up for the prong collar, in which case the prong is the corrective collar and the DD's job is just to hang around in case the prong pops off. In this case it would not be used for aggression or for corrections of any kind. At least that is what I thought was being asked.
Picture: http://leerburg.com/Photos/prongsafe-3.jpg (in the photo the DD collar is above the prong collar). However mine is a bit looser than the prong collar which is why I put it below.
"I go with below. It usually ends up their anyways because you're going a size larger with a DD collar you use with a prong. "
I just ordered mine for this purpose and didn't realize I needed to go a size larger. Is it the end of the world if it's not? This is of course assuming I measured properly.
