I had to switch nights for dog obedience due to schedule conflict and my dog is the least experienced. All the others have at least shown in AKC obedience. What a difference in my dog's behavior when all dogs are stable or at least under control. She did the stand while I walked away and around and we had never done that before. She didn't even yap at another dog. There was a fiesty 1 year old standard poodle , but his owner kept him in check so my dog didn't even pay attention. Not even when we were in line behind it waiting for our turn for recall and the poodle tried to turn and stare at her but was not allowed to. I didn't let her off the leash but at least don't feel it's impossible with this group.
Let her off leash last night at class. She even went over a couple of jumps. Best-she was in a sit stay and later a down stay (I did have the leash) as other dogs were healing off leash walking by her about 1 foot away! That's a miracle with this previously dog aggressive pitty x. I smell a CGC in our future!
I'm seeing the same thing with Daisy in our advanced class. Without the reaction of other dogs it's great. But last week, someone got the bright idea, while were were in a down stay, to knock on the classroom door. Every dog reacted. Everyone handled it differently. I made Daisy return to her down and quiet, several times. The Traverns (sp?) were allowed to go check it out and see what was outside, while the other dogs continued to bark, run around, and engage each other ???? Kind of dissappointed how that situation was handled.
