I understand to keep the Prong high, yes it works great for my dog. But, keeping a collar high on his neck is very hard. I put the collar on, tight to me, yet, just walking a little the collar seems to start sliding down. Sleek short hair (weimaraner). And, after a bit, he does try to scratch off the collar since the prongs go into his neck. I tell him no, which he will stop for a bit, but will scratch again later. That is not too much of a problem, its just keeping the collar up high. I am also walking 2 other Weims too so I can not concentrate fully on the collar every second of the walk.
You'll know you have the right fit when with no lead the collar doesn't move around on the neck with no lead attached.
When fit like this (which would be properly) would it seem like the collar is "too tight"? Would it also be a little hard to rotate the collar from one side to the other?

I have never had that issue unless one is trying to rotate against the prongs. We're talking about snug not uncomfortable. Smaller prongs allow a better fit.
I had a similar issue with Athena - just bought a new prong (extra large)as she is an English Mastiff approx 150pds. I put it on and it seemed snug around the neck but by the end of my walk and few corrections was half way down her neck. Tried to take a prong out but then way to tight in my opinion because when I put my finger under a prong it dug into my finger but maybe I am too sensitive to the pressure. Should I then go to a large and buy extra links if too small around her neck?
eta. sorry guess this is an old post but still applies to my problem LOL

I've had the problem Jasmine is talking about, even rotating both ways. But if I have it any looser it ends up at the bottom of his neck so I keep it that tight. It doesn't seem to bother him though, it just looks tight to me.
I hate to keep buying stuff if it isn't gonna work but I guess I could use it with Diesel if it doesn't work for Athena (just gets to be a bit expensive!)
When I put my finger under a prong with another link removed it compressed my finger and left a mark - so to my way of thinking that is too tight but even with not fitting 100% I am noticing her heel better.

It's probably possible for dogs to be in between sizes, right?
Anyway, I'm sure it will work fine even if not fitting 100% correctly. I think it just comes undone more easily and takes more effort to be effective when it's too big. And I think the sizing is really geared towards the people who put the huge ones on over the dogs head (like a choke). But I could be totally wrong, haha.
I know what you are talking about too, I put the collar snug right close to her ears, and it's a pain to get on and off, but after a few "no"'s, it is round her neck where usual collars are.
She isn't stopping pulling anyway, without me keep saying "no" all the time with a quick snap of the collar. so I tried it even harder, but she still keeps on.
