to play fetch outside, if said dog couldn't care less about running after a ball.
she really prefers soft sqeaky toys, and in particular has ONE favorite toy. I don't want to take that one outside because i can't imagine how dirty it would get, and i wouldn't want anything to happen to it (god forbid anything happen to this toy, i don't know what she would do).
so... she is 12 lbs and looks like she is uncomfortable carrying a tennis ball in her mouth anyway.

What toy is it? Maybe buy one for inside and one for outside? Even inside our dogs' toys get pretty slimy. If it's muddy outside or they just get really dirty I'll rinse them off a bit before putting them away.
hmm could try to find something similar. it's just a little plush bone shape squeaky thing. my mom bought it for her last year (no idea where) and it was attached to a rope, and she tore it off from the rope and cannot be separated from it!. but i've seen similar things around.
This thing is great! My Rudy loves it. I have brought it to dog club and gotten non toy motivated non tuggers to respond to it. You can throw it in the wash, buy a replacement part, or can tie another toy to it.
Planet Dog makes great toys. Leerburg sells the ever-popular Orbee balls, but check the Planet Dog web site for more products.
Ripley has an Orbee-tuff soccer ball that has lasted through 3 and a half years of daily hard use. It looks like it's going to fall apart, so I bought a replacement a year ago. The replacement has been spurned as a cheap imitation. (It's the same ball, but it's not Soccer, if you know what I mean.) Best dog toy money I've ever spent. Twice.
---makes even sedentary older dogs play like pups. You get a lot of distance from every throw, and it's fun to watch dogs try to figure out where it's going to bounce. It's GREAT in the water, too. It's so bouyant that the dog really has to work to pick it up out of the water. My dog usually has to dive for it a couple of times, but he's really proud of himself when he comes up with it.
Yes, it's plenty long enough! Rudy also loves the Orbee ball on a string and the leather bite rag from Leerburg. We have the rubber puppy tug and several other things as well.
He is a very aggressive chewer and has destroyed the Tire-Biter bone from Leerbug in 10 minutes. I unpacked it from the box, put peanut butter in it and gave it to him. I looked over and there he was still licking the peanut butter, but 2 of the nobs of the bone were lying on his towel!
I love the stuff from Leerburg and CleanRun and have spent a lot on these sites, but whenever I can find the same thing in Canada I have to buy here because the shipping and duty are killers!
