does anyone buy clothing for their dog? i don't mean like pants (although i have seen pants and dresses, and just found it a little odd!)
luanne has really thin fur (and in some places, none at all), and shivers in the cold. I have a little sweater for her, but want to see if i can get something a little heavier, maybe a jacket/coat.
I have even used the boots during the summer at one of our close by lakes, as the above mentioned pitty had chunks taken out of him paws with all the unseen broken glass around. I put the boots on for the play time, then just make sure you take them off and very carefully dry the paws out.
Disclaimer: I do not dress up my GSD’s or will I ever, but we go to the town where this stuff is made, very high quality stuff, I saw the “prototype” while shopping with my wife….Anyways it is coming soon and its made in northern Minnesota.
Timely discussion. I am debating whether to get Lucy a coat or sweater for winter walking. Thick hair but not thick enough I think for winter...wind chills of -10 to -30 degrees do not make for a happy beagle.
I think there was a thread in here about winter wear. I am going to look for it.
I have a cowl for Loki's ears, he hates it but I worry about his ears on really cold days. I think a strip of polar fleece tied like a bandana around his head would have worked just as well though.
I also have a neoprene vest for when we will be out for long periods in the damp or mud. He just doesn't have much fur and he shivers when it is below about 25 or so, but he is very much a house dog and not acclimated to the cold at all.
I'd never put my dogs in clothes either until we moved here. Now I do it for fun as well as because we have below freezing to -30 weather for months. http://www.hurtta.com has some nice stuff but expensive. You can dress to match your dog - no kidding. Pretty cool stuff. ManMat from Norway is often at the sled dog supply stores. This ManMat jacket is so easy to put on with velcro around the torso and the neck.
Scott re: "I do not dress up my GSD’s or will I ever," this is the prefered jacket for those macho sled dogs who run 1100 miles in 10 days. Nothing Metro about it.
