Kevin,
I would love to show my support for something along these lines, however, I do have some significant personal objections to signing this petition. Do you know of any way to voice them to Petpac?
You can go to their web site and send them e-mail.
I support it primarily due to the amount of anti-pet activism (mostly disguised as pro animal rights crap) that seems pervasive in local governments these days.
Hell, I am moving outside the city of Albuquerque right now so that I can conduct my dog affairs without the overbearing "HEART" ordinance interfering with what good pet owners do. This sweeping ordinance was rammed down dog owners throats a couple years back by animal activists and its result....nothing, no increase in licensure or vaccination of pets but an increase in the burden born by people who will follow the rules and always had and didn't contribute to any problems locally with pet over population, abandonment and cruelty. It just gave bitchy neighbors (you know the kind, the ones that complain as hobby and put as much into that as others do in more legitimate and useful hobbies) more opportunity to bitch to the already over worked animal control folks (oh, but they did get new uniforms and a new name...animal welfare officer).
All this while a community north of us revamped their ordinances to reflect a useful approach to animal control....punish those who screw up and work on and achieve a no kill shelter!! Got rid of license fees and spay neuter requirements, and focused on animal control dealing with problem people, not decent folks. And by all accounts it has worked and cost less. But, hey who hears of politicians routinely voting away their ability to increase government???
I am all for animal welfare, and completely against governments increasing expansion into the average citizens life and that includes pet ownership.
OK I will get off my soap box! That is why I support Petpac because for the most part they advocate a little sense and there isn't much of a voice out there for sensible (read less) government.

That HEART ordinance is awful and it sounds quite similar to the SB 250 animal rights extremists tried to pass here in CA. I'm a strong supporter of PetPac. It's been stated by the extremists that PetPac is the reason for SB 250's failure. Now we just need to keep stopping these laws from getting passed all over the country. There's another grassroots group called Save Our Dogs that aims at educating people about the damage mandatory spay/neuter laws have on working dog lines. If you Google them it should be the first link that comes up.
