My 6month old very active beauceron broke one toe running, He has a splint and a collar any ideas how to entertain him he is so bored and I am gooing crazy? th vet told me he should be crated that is ok but not all the time he is very smart any games or entertaining ideas?

Jennifer, I trained it the same as naming a toy, but I just added a scent to the item.
I just put a different scent on the different things I loose, but that the dogs can find for me. I also use baby oil as a sent on my cell phone case. I like using pleasant but distinct scents for this stuff. I just refresh the scents once a month with my through cleaning (the kind where I clean EVERYTNING&hellip
I actually got the idea from Connie. She mentioned putting scents on items for blind dogs to warn them of corners on furniture or help them find toys. I figured that if a blind dog can find a toy then a sighted dog could find a scented toy that was hidden.
ETA: I love the dog scout stuff. I play with a lot of the badges on there, and use them for ideas when I find myself getting bored with training. I'd like to say we would earn a bunch of badges if we were on the other side of the country...

There is so much to do indoors! Even links of a chained command, such as releasing a retrieve item into the handler's hand, or (if allowed) a stately heel marker-lesson in a hallway.
Much of what you can do outdoors can be done indoors with far fewer distractions, making it a better place for starting a new command.
