My eight year old son wants "Roxie" to be his dog. She is typical of working line GSDs, that is to say she only listens to one person and bonded to me primarily. My son Brian has been feeding her, he can pill her and put eye drops in her, she'll listen to him somewhat, I'm thinking of totaly ignoring her and only let Brian train/play with her. Brian would be Roxie's third handler. Any suggestions on how to quickley transfer "ownership" to the point Brian becomes Roxie's one and only?
I think I would go slowly with this because having raised three kids who are relatively normal and Dennis, other than the father yours seem AOK too passions switch frequently and abruptly.
I think the responsibilities Brian has already undertaken are phenomenal and he very well may have the capacity to handle Roxie but I think a slow approach would be best to make sure this isn't a passing fancy. Maybe begin by having him assist you in the training and then when he works Roxie you assist him kind of nice for all three of you actually.
Of course this is only one woman's opinion who was reminding her son to brush his teeth every morning until he turned 17 and got a girlfriend Nothing like a little kissing to up the hygiene level.

How about if he learns marker training and works with her while you are present and obviously on board, and then later you slowly and gradually absent yourself?

Brian's my kennel master and assitant trainer. He's helped me train three dogs to Bh level(not titled yet) already

Then I would say you are half way there. How about you relegate yourself to the assistant status and have Brian take the lead? As far as respect, does he carry enough authority to be her leader?

only with a treat in his hand, we just started this evening and she'll do the basic stuff for him including out a tug or sleeve for a reward, ie her ball or hot dog
Sounds like a good beginning. Did you find it difficult to give up the reigns and not interfere? To be honest with you when I let my youngest work with Thor it was reminiscent of ye old nail scratching of a black board. I thought I would go insane.

Is my bad parenting showing?
we're all bad parents but I'm convinced we'll all be super grand parents
Well today didn't go as planned, I had Brian work/play with Roxie using lots of treats and toy time and Roxie did a down in motion for him and a sit in motion and a rocket like recall for him, did lots more play and we did a brushing and nail trim and I told him to put her back in the kennel and let Erika out for her excercise time. I started to work her and she totally blew me off and ran to Brian with the ball, I let it go and let Brian play with her. the only thing I figured is she was watching Roxie and Brian and figured that she didn't have to work nearly as hard to score treats and toys.

Be careful what you wish for.....you've been ditched!
Nice going with Roxie and Brian though. Is he still gun ho on making her his dog?
