so, this is a first for me (not the puppy, the problem)
I acquired a new GSD pup yesterday after my long time companion passed away a couple of weeks ago.
Jumping in too soon on a new pup? Too late now, hes here. Anyway this puppy WHINES(!) constantly he did not during selction either near his litter or by himself. He does not seem to be affraid, in fact Im not even sure hes aware hes doing it. I have never had a puppy cry likethis incessantly...hes been to the vet and has a clean bill of health ..Ive tried a heating pad on low, things that smell like the house in his bed and one of my labs toys ( the lab didnt mind and I thought the dog smell would help) Hes eight weeks old and Ive already run out of ideas...Im stumped..and I HATE whining!!
A GSD that whines? Never heard of that.
You just took him away from his litter mates. Let him adjust. It's only been 2 days.
I think names with a good hard vowel sound are easy for the dog to listen to, just my thought. You'll probably call him a few other names in the future but good to hear he's settling. As Bill Cosby once said he thought his name was Jesus Christ till he was 6.
Auster has a thing for ska. I think it has to do with the horns. She also likes the ramones song that says "let's go" (what we tell her when she gets to take a car ride) over and over.
Just play whatever you normally play, although for the dog's sake turn it down before you leave. Especially Metallica . I think that the dog gets most of the benefit from having the environment be similar to what it is when you are home.

She hasn't decided shes Emo now? (warning bad ska joke)
nah, the pup has probs when Im home, hell in my lap. Not when were gone (he hasnt really been left alone yet). But he seems to be settling in.
anyone have any advice on how to head off separation anxiety in advance? I can see that being a problem in the future and Ive never had to deal with it before. I want to make sure I dont set him up to be destructo-dog.
I know its human to be full of joy, jumping up and down when we get home from long seperation. My inlaws are like this and this is what is causing it. LOL! Seriously,I have read that this can contribute to it. Any thoughts on this?
