is it that they are too hard and teeth may break?
sharding?
combination?
does buying a smaller turkey allievate these issues?
I've got a 21 lb terrier so whatever piece of turkey I might give him would be in small chunks. from what i can remember about a turkey skeleton are the large bones. and yeah, they might be kinda thick so i get that... but do turkeys have smaller sized bones in other areas? and would they be small enough and hard enough to choke on?
from what i've searched for here, it's just dependent on the dog.
You pretty much covered any response I would've given.
The only other thing is that my dog, a 15 lb. Terrier, just does not seem to digest turkey bones well. Don't know why. Turkey bones are always more likely to be seen again for him.

i feed the necks and the wings just fine, but stay away from the rest (some turkey drumstick from the store are sometimes so big they look like one of the parents was a cow)

He can eat them just fine, though.
Same here - and I have a 95lb Ridgeback. He'll eat anything, and even when I've tried to get the absolute smallest turkey necks I can find, he STILL hocks up at least a little bit later on. I have no idea why turkey bones do this to him, but they do, so I just don't feed them anymore.

I got turkey once, and the leg bones were way too big and heavy (IMO), and I never forgot my granddog's tooth fracture (raw bone) and very spendy crown at Tufts, so I didn't give them. So it was an immediate PITA. Then one of the dogs threw up his turkey.
All in all, I just didn't get turkey any more.
I'm sad, though, because of the amazing sales on frozen turkeys! I'd probably be snatching 'em up otherwise.
My dog crushes, eat, digests all turkey parts with enthusiasm...and he's a picky eater. He can't/won't touch beef, if I trick him and mix it with tripe he throws up before he's even done eating. I have given him the big turkey legs and he has no trouble with them, gone in minutes. 100lb corso.
