He had enough material for a whole concert??
LOL!
He probably has 25 or so albums. (I probably have more than a dozen!)
American Pie is one of my least favorite cuts. Even on that album there are better ones. Vincent is better, IMO (Starry Starry Night).
But Chain Lightening was a terrific album. He had the Elvis backup singers on it (the Jordanaires) ... that's the one where he does Crying (the only guy besides Roy Orbison who has the range to do that song).
I digress. I like his own music and I like his covers of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and others.

Hmmm, is that because it's been pick apart so much over the years? Or is it because that seems to be the only song from him they ever play?
Because it's his least good composition and it was played to death besides. JMHO. I betcha it drives him crazy to have that be his famous contribution to musical history.
I forgot all about Starry Starry Night. All I think of with him is "Drove my Chevy to the Levy" The only other song I can think of that I dislike as much is "Been through the desert on a horse with no name". Or maybe a few radio jingles.
Check out Chris Isaak if you like a range like Roy Orbison, who's also a favorite of mine. http://www.chrisisaak.com/
Yeah yeah, Isaak is 'almost' as good a song writer, but doesn't quite come up to Orbison's standard.
I can sit through A Horse With No Name, but for songs that make me want to kill the radio 'Staying Alive' by the Bee Gees does it.
Wow, Steve, I think Chris Isaak is great....haven't heard anyone mention his name in a very long time! I like McLean, also. I like his other cuts more then American Pie, too, Connie.
