Hi everyone. I bought a great male pup from Leerburg back in 2005 from the Vasco/Sage litter. I am looking for a female pup to breed him with because all my family wants a pup from Zeus. He is very protective of my kids and our home and he amazes the whole family. There are so many breeders and its hard finding the right one. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

No I am not a breeder. I just have the greatest dog in the world and I want to keep his bloodline going. My sister has 2 boys and they just love playing with Zeus. I also have a good friend that would like a dog like Zeus. I was raised on a small farm with cows, pigs and goats so I know about raising animals. We also just bought 40 acres so we are moving back to the country. We live in the southwest corner of Missouri. Are there any breeders close where I could just go pick up a pup? If not, I am willing to go to the airport and pick up a new pup. When we bought Zeus from Leerburg we picked him up in Springfield which is about 70 miles from where we live. Thanks
I don't doubt he is probably the best dog you have ever had.
However, you will need to get him titled or otherwise prove his quality. Very few people with a female who is breedable will mate to an untitled and untested dog.
If you just breed to some random female, that really doesn't qualify as 'carrying on the line'.

Yes. And a working knowledge of genetics as well .....

As a thought you could just have him collected for AI and take your time finding the perfect girl for your guy. It also gives you time to title your boy, run all the health screens you should run, etc.
Once in the deep freeze quality collections in theory are good forever.
I didn't mean to disrespect anyone here on the board. In my eyes I do have the greatest dog! I have trained Zeus for things me and my family enjoy. He is also very protective of my kids and these days that is a great thing. I have recently found a trainer in my area to help get me started on his title and personal protection. Me and my wife are just getting our feet in the water on getting titles for Zeus. That's why I came to this board. I figured with help from everyone here I could find a good working female pup. It will be a couple years before I decide to breed. Again I am sorry if I offended anyone. I was just wanting help in getting started in the right direction for finding the right pup. Thanks
It looks to me like the OP wants to BUY a female pup to breed to his male... SOOOOO many red flags here, I don't know where to start....
Has Zeus been OFAd?
Do you know what bloodlines will get you a replica of Zeus?
Zeus is from 2 outstanding parents... both working line... do your family and friends have the abilities to raise and care for "alligators" if that is what you end up producing?
I can assure you, Zeus' litter was not the only one that CJ (Vasco) and Sage produced.... so I can also assure you that the bloodline is not going to die out.
I will also tell you that while you think you have the greatest dog in the world, the majority of the people on this board have the same thought. We love our dogs.
But is loving your dog enough to breed him? In my opinion NO.
GSDs do have large litters. I don't think Sage ever had less than 10. 10 puppies are alot of puppies to find homes for. You think you might have homes for 2... what will happen to the others? Are you willing to face the fact that some pups from your wonderful dog may end up dying in a shelter?
You have a Leerburg dog. Great. But I think Ed and Cindy may have spoiled you... they make breeding look easy. It's not. I have watched while they do puppy testing and agonize over placements. I have seen great females die whelping. I have seen litters that didn't turn out the way they were planned. I have seen a lot.
I will never breed dogs. I have the knowlege to do it. I have the knowlege to pick great breedings. I will never take on that much responsibility.
You should not breed a dog because your friends want one like yours. Find them a breeder that produces similar dogs.
Being a family protector and the fact that he plays with kids is not enough reason to breed him. You really need to think about this and the ramifications of breeding.

Starbuck, I don't think anyone is "offended," actually. I think it's more that everyone is afraid that you have no idea what responsible and ethical breeding entails. Kelly's post gives a good taste.
This thread (the whole thing) will also give you a feeling for how ethical and responsible breeders view breeding:
