I have a 5.5 month old mal pup that is having a hard time with his ears. They came up on their own at 4 mo., and were standing up fine, and then they flopped when he started teething. My concern is that he might need some help to get them back up, and I am considering taping or glueing them. I have checked on-line, including this web site, and just about everything I have found pertains to GSD. I have talked with the breeder, and he tells me not to worry, they'll come up on their own. Does anyone have any experience with Mals and their ears? I don't want to wait and then be sorry I didn't do something when I could've / should've.

The common thought I've read and heard is that if they were up once they'll go up again. Is there something particular about his floppy ears to make you think they won't go up again?
You can tape them. It won't hurt anything to do it other than have a puppy give you the dork face while you glue in the inserts.
Here's the absolute best and easiest way, i did with my pup at Jason's suggestion after trying all the other ways i heard about: Cut a piece the shape of the ear off the cardboard from a toilet paper roll, make sure the fit is right, use tear mender glue, stick it right in the ear and it should stay in for 3-6 days. Really easy and no tape or any of that crap, here's a before and after pic before:
I have personal experience with this. I use pipe insulation, cut in half, then cut to the shape of the ear. Use a product called Osto-bond to glue it in. I found that a heavy-duty band-aid on the back side will stick better to the ear. I have a photo I could show but I'm not sure how to post it here, maybe someone could help me out with that.
Wait until the dog is 6 months before you give up on them coming up on their own.
I went through the same thing with Dom. My breeder told me its normal for them to flop while teething and when he's done they should go back up again. He said that the teeth use up the calcium. And true to his word, his ears stood up in a couple weeks.
My dog absolutely would not tolerate anything in his ears. I tried a variety of products. Luckily, he's a mixed breed so doesn't have to look a certain way. I just thought he would be cute with his ears up (he looks like a GSD), but since he absolutely wouldn't allow it, I just let them be.
I have read many times that if the ears are up prior to teething, they will go back up on their own when teething is finished. If they haven't gone back up by about 6.5 months then you can tape them.
