My 15 year old gal took her chicken back like a champ today! She crunched and munched like she's been doing it her whole life. And then she waited around for more!! It's been about an hour now and she's still checking the kitchen every few minutes. She loves it more than her THK, I think. I'm so happy!! Thanks to everyone who helped walk me through it!

I am envious!
There's only one "first raw meal."
I have one who crunches his way through his RMB so dedicatedly, so focused ... he is in his own little world with his chicken back. He is the same rescue senior who vibrates while the bowls are being prepared.

It cracks me up when the dogs go back to check and re-check. You can almost read that little brain in the facial expression. Head goes up, brain says "Wait! Could I have left a drop on the floor behind the bowl? Or maybe Pomfret and Oliver didn't clean out their bowls (although I checked twice). Better go look."

How does it feel to make such a profound change in a senior's life?
Rhetorical question, really. I know how it feels: great.

It feels amazing. The best part was my mom, who nearly lost it when she first saw I was giving Dolly bones, saying, "I wish we'd known about this sooner," after seeing how much Dolly loved the back and how great she's looking.
I gave Maggie her first chicken back last week. Actually it was a game hen back, because I was so nervous about this whole thing. She loved it and when she came back inside afterwards she promptly went counter surfing for the rest of the bird. Something she hasn't done in quite a while--counter surfing. She got half of the bird out of the baking dish, but not fast enough to down it. I washed it off, put it back in the pan and put her on her leash.... I need to make sure she doesn't see where they come from.
I don't post here all that much, but do read everything, and I just wanted to say that I am so impressed with how you approached the research and your education about feeding raw. I found it very inspiring, actually. You're always friendly, helpful, and respectful too. Your dogs are very lucky to have someone who cares about them as much as you obviously do. Keep asking--from your questions, the rest of us have learned a lot too!

Big ditto! It's been wonderful to "watch" this senior have this life-affecting service done for her.
