I took him and some of the other dogs up into the Bull Mountains for a hike and he had a blast. Poe was essentially my first dog and he is bar none one of the most intelligent, talented, and versatile dogs that I have ever met. He was limited only by his owner's lack of training skills. I won the dog lottery the day Poe entered my life :-)
Ingrid, don't you ever wish sometimes they showed up when we knew just a tad more?? I have one like that; I sure wish I was starting out with him now as opposed to 7 years ago. So many things we could've done.
Thanks all! Yes, Jenni, I wish that he came later in my life! Maybe than I would have appreciated straight from the start how special he is. Instead he got to suffer through my bumbling handling skills and trying out new training techniques.

I don't know if I'm with you though on wishing I had my beloved eldest dog later in life. He's such a special dog that I decided I needed to train better, such a great dog to put up with my insanity of trying new things, and one of those once in a lifetime dogs that seems to come out the better for it.
Ingrid, I spent a while browsing your site last night. They are all beautiful. And I realized just how much we had in common when I read that you hadn't bred a litter yet after all these years. LOL. Gee, I got Capri in April after what....like 8 years wanting to breed GOOD GSDs. It will pay off tenfold, which you know.
I admit I was crestfallen to find Poe had been neutered. Something in his eyes gets to me.
