I tried to search on the forum but didn't find much info. I agree on everything with no vaccines but does everyone use medicine for hearworm. From the 1 thread I found sounded like some just use it during the summer.
I live in an area where Heartworm, Lyme disease and Rabies are a real risk, thus I do medicate for all three. Heartworm I use April through November when mosquitos are about. I used to be on the same regiment with the tick repellant however; after a Winter outbreak of Lyme disease in this area and my pulling ticks off my dog in Feb. I now treat year round for Lyme too. Rabies, I am on the three year plan.
Being in southern TX I use Heart Guard year around and frontline. I also do the three years rabies just because I am in hurricane Alley and its better to not have to Vaccinate during a stressful time.
I use heartworm and flea protection year round, our weather is too unpredictable for me to stop in the winter.
I only use tick protection when I know we are going to be out where there are ticks.
But we have no brush in our yard and I have never found a tick from the house.
We are on the three year rabies plan for all dogs and cats as well, we get too many dead critters drug in the house to risk doing otherwise and have a lot of raccoons and foxes in the neighborhood.
