I am trying to start basic bite training with my 1 year old female. I have started her on playing tug,and on drive and focus from the dvd. unfortunately i let a friend borrow the dvd 2 years ago and havent got it back. I dont remember if in tug if you let the dog win to build its confidence, and after dog has got prey ofject which i,m using orbie ball to build focus,if you wait til dog loosens grip on it then take it,or to start with the outs. wondered if someone could refresh my memory
I answered my question. I found the reading in Ed's basic bite training vidio. I forget that most of you are in to the Schutzhund training, I like to do civil work, which call for different techinques.

Really? I've done civil work with my dogs and Police Patrol Canines ( and the numerous PPD's that I've sold for well over a decade ), and I'm unaware of this "difference" - please, fill us in.
Maybe I didnt quite say it the way I meant it, I think the basics are the same as to build the dog's drives, and to start their bite work,but the road does branch in the way of Schutzhund is a sport and civil work can mean life or death. I have seen few schutzhund trained dogs that could make it as a civil trained dog. I think the difference is obvious. If I offended you I apologize, I just wanted to protection train my dog in real world situations.
p.s one way I have seen different with Schutzhund trainers is in the time that they start a dog with the outing of the prey object, it seems the civil. trainer will start that immediately,where as schutzhund seem to differ on their time of starting. Is this correct?

I must not have good communication skills, cause I'm thinking that i am answering your question and I guess I'm not. On civil training they wear a whole bite suit because the dog is not sleeve trained, they use a different stick on civil, that makes more noise, the dogs are learned to be more alert to signs of danger. I think the biting used in schutzhund is more a calm full bite,as far as every technique used I dont know, if I did I guess I wouldnt be reading and asking questions. I think your missing my point,that I want a civil trained protection dog not a schutzhund trained protection dog. My original question was in the drive and focus video how to end the game. To let him have it like in Schutzhund training I believe that they let the dog run with the prey object, in this video I think you just make the dog out it. I'm sure you will correct me if I'm wrong. LOL
