We've all done it! What did you mistakenly teach your dog to do and are all the sudden thinking twice about?
Mine is really dumb...I put some essential oils on a dollar bill I always have in my wallet and taught my dog to find the bill, and therefore find my wallet and bring it to me....unfortunately he now finds money....all money, and apparently likes the way it feels in his mouth.....and brings the bills to me rather than the wallet...he brings ALL bills to me...he pick-pocketed my roommate's friend the other day....I told him to get my wallet comes wandering in with a twenty and an angry guy following him, apparently he's quite smooth sliding the bills out of pockets and bags too....
He also knows the word "walk", the sound of the word "walk" when it's spelled forwards and backwards, and understands the sign language we use in an attempt to hide the fact we're asking if anyone wants to take the dog out for a walk....I think we'll try flashcards again next.....

I think we have all done this in formal training too -- accidentally started a pattern, for example.

And who hasn't "taught" a dog that really really REALLY escalating the noise and thrashing is the best way to get attention. Escalating it a little -- well, maybe that human will stand fast. But really put your lungs and your back into it? No problem.

I think we'll try flashcards again next..... So, you'll teach your dog to read? LOL j/k
But I'll bet he'll learn pretty quick what you holding up a card means. Smart dogs are fun, aren't they? Trying to stay one step ahead of them is a bit of a mental workout for the humans.
I can say "walk" all I want without eliciting a response, since I don't usually connect the word with the action to them. But somehow, some way, my one male KNOWS when it's his turn for a walk. I have no idea how he does this, and he's rarely wrong. I think he can read minds. ???
I also taught my female to jump on me. I really wish I hadn't done that. grr.

This is why I believe so strongly in never do once what you don't want to do twice...animals are so quick to become conditioned!
When my GSD was a puppy, I began giving her a little snack right before bedtime, to help her stomach make it thru the nite without then waking up to the green bile vomit thing. Fine.
Generally, I'd wait until just after brushing my teeth...then kennel command and final treat of the day.
Fast forward many years...added a couple of kitties...you can't give a treat to the dog and not treat the kitties! So, everyone got their last treats of the day after I brushed my teeth and did the evening ablutions bit.
Now, whenever I brush my teeth and especially at bedtime, I will return to the bedroom to find the cats in their "everyone in their places with bright shiny faces" spots, calmly waiting for their last cookies of the day. It doesn't matter what they're doing, or where they are in the house...they just magically appear.
Cracks me up every time...

One of the few tidbits of advice I was offered from our local K9 handler on parenting a GSD was, "Be careful, they pick up on patterns like you wouldn't believe..."
Boy was he right... Its like my dog is my daily coordinator. Dare I do something out of order, his little head might explode. He keeps me on track!

My can opener has the same effect, it doesn't matter where they are all animals magically show up at my feet.
Also every morning when I put my belt on before work Yote comes running and does the zoomies all around the room thinking I am jingling his leash.
The least funny is because of my bad timing with the clicker, I somehow managed to teach Yote to rake his teeth down my forearm everytime I put him in a down. It is getting better now that I don't have to bend over and get my hand so low to do the hand signal, but geez it kind of hurts!

You mean like using a glove when tracking with Cali? She LOVES that glove. Then winter comes and every glove needs to be "tracked." How about the time I met a friend on a walk, we stopped to talk, and Cali moseyed over and pulled the glove right off her hand! You mean that kind of thing?
