hi all,
New girl here with a 6 month Rhodesian ridgeback. My breeder suggested an e-collar because Gingee is a stubborn dog for the counter. I have cleaned it, cleared it, hot sauced it and she still wants up on the counter. the breeder suggested e-collar.
?? am i damaging my dog to become fear aggressive?
please don't tell me to buy a video on this as I'd like personal people to help me. it seems when you ask a question you are directed to a video. well the videos don't get personal with me so I think a forum will help me.

Hi Cheryl and welcome.
Properly used, an e-collar is just another tool in the training kit--any of which can be used well or poorly. There's nothing inherently "bad" about an e-collar. And I think they are a great tool for working long-distance with a dog. Like out in a field. But that's not the case here.
In order to give Gingee a correction with a e-collar you'd have to be in the room with her or at least close enough to see her counter surfing, right?. Why not just supervise her in the kitchen and when you see her going for the counter tell her to sit? Re-direct her impulse to counter-surf by giving her something else to do that will give her an even bigger reward.
She's only 6 months old which is still a puppy--even though a big one. I'd work on some basic obedience commands, work on your ability to get and hold her attention, and closely supervise her until she's trustworthy in your house. (and no 6-month-old puppy is trustworthy left alone.) That's what crates are for.
hi Tracy, yes I don believe in crates, she has a nice one in the kitchen. I am sitting right here with her in the kitchen though, un leashed and she will still jump up to see what is on the stove or counter. i say off, she gets off but to me, it seems like a game that I get up, she says off and that's it. where is the understanding the counter is not allowed period!!!!.. no emphasis to you but just trying to say, the end

Counter surfing is a self rewarding behavior with a reward random enough that she'll do it every time she gets the chance. Remember it's not about the size of the prize, even a crumb is a reward. The best solution is to keep her out of the kitchen. Indoor invisible fences are an awesome, awesome invention with the ability to set up clear boundaries. It's what we used to keep my brother's dogs out of the baby's room. I prefer it to the various forms of scat mats on the market because it allows you full function of the room and is 100% consistent.
It doesn't need to be forever, just until she learns to mind you more than searching for a random food reward.
