Hi, I have a 13yr old dog. His teeth are bad and need cleaning. I dont really want to put him under or spend $500. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with teeth cleaning without the being put under? Theres a lady here who will come to your home and do it for around $200 i believe. I want to know if it is as good and if anyone had any experience with it good or bad? Ps. My dog would definitely be fine to stay still and not bite etc. for it. Any advice would be very much appreciated!!

Shop around with vets for a better deal. Odds are if your dog is 13 with rotten teeth he will be losing more than a couple of them which will make this tooth cleaning painful and extraction even worse.
Most of the dental stuff I have done on mine is less than $200 so far. It really is one of those things where if you know it's going to happen it's better to get it done early rather than waiting for the rotten teeth stage.
I guess im very worried about putting an old dog under at all. His teeth have bin professionally cleaned twice before. He gets bones and eats raw(ground). I dont think they are rotten or will need to be pulled, I dont think they bother him at all. But they look nasty and think they need to be cleaned. I could get him at a vet for cheap but dont really trust that vet 100%. I heard something about using oxygen to put them under...anyone heard of that before? its supposed to be very safe.
Michael, the house calls is for when the dog isnt being put under, think they just scrape the tarter off the teeth, i dont know if thats as effective as when they put them out, as far as getting under the gumline.

I've had Conan's teeth cleaned when they were pretty bad (before he ate raw, you should see them now!) and we had it done at the groomer's. It's a lady who comes out every so often and does the cleaning without putting the dogs under for $95. I'm not 100% sure about how well it cleans on a technical level, but she did an excellent job on Conan and they've looked great since.
My vet sells a spray that you spray on the teeth. It softens the plaque over a period of about two weeks to the point that you can scrape it off with a toothbrush or finger cot.
I have never personally used it and don't know the name of the spray. If you are interested email me privately and I will be happy to call him for you and get the name of the product.

Its called C.E.T. It is an oral rinse. That company also has a good tooth paste, as well.
In my limited experience, the rinse and tooth brushing are great for prevention of calculus build up, but not so great for removal of calculus build up.

He perhaps said "Petzlife." This is a brand of oral care products. I use the oral care gel as toothpaste on my dogs. Works great. My dogs really like the salmon-flavored one.
