I know this topic has been posted more than once in the puppy section but both posts had little to no response. I hope no one minds that I raise this question again because I need some help. I have a 7 month old female Akita. She has a submissive urination problem. I know it's not from excitement because I can wind her up as much as possible and she won't pee. Whenever she meets a stranger or gets let out of her crate when I get home 9 out of 10 times she will let loose if I don't immeditely run to the back door and let her out. It has improved somewhat as I have been doing all the recommended remedys for this. Ignoring her at first, not making eye contact etc. With strangers though is has not improved at all. My question is this. What can I do to boost her confidence? Are there any training exercises I can do to make her become more confident? She also constantly licks me and my wife, once again showing her submissiveness (sp).....Most people I talk to say she'll grow out of it but it looks bleek and every dog I have owned was out of their crate by 12 months. I can't imagine opening the door every day to her waiting and peeing all over the kitchen floor....any suggestions
Joseph, my dog did the same thing. He outgrew it. Give your dog time to mature, and just ignore the peeing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> JMO
Thanks John and Melissa for the replies. I am hoping she outgrows it. That is the only "issue" she has otherwise she is great. It seems like whatever dog I get they are always perfect except for one thing lololol...I also have an 8 year old male Akita who is just phenomenal...the only problem with him is he unfortunately has Addisons disease which of course isn't his fault and there is nothing I can do about it. He has to live with that. Quite the expensive disease also. 120.00 shot every 22 days......Melissa--I socialize her as much as possible...she's walked every day so some days we will run into people on the walk but mainly her socialization comes at the weekends. We'll take her out to crowded places which she will pee at first and then it's kind of out of her system after the first person...The agility would be fun but I just don't think I could committ to the time involved with that. I'm a competitive bodybuilder so between my time devoted to that, my wife and work there's not much spare time left....because of the time issue I have done all my own obediance training like I did with my male...I would like to have put her in a setting with lot's of other dogs on a consistant basis but time wise it just wasn't possible...
Six moths of wearing rubber shoes and changing clothes frequently fixed the problem with Buttercup, aka "spray boy"
Most of them grow out of it..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
