Taking a quick moment for a late venting.. ( happened awhile back and something reminded me of it today )
So..anyone else out there had any bad experiences with other dog forums?
It's so amusing how many purely positive dog owners that are out there that absolutely FLIP when you mention prong or e-collars. I've been practically run out for even suggesting one. Trying to explain how an e-collar works is useless. Apparently I'm an abusive dog owner who should be fined and have all my dogs taken away permanently. Oh and I'm also lazy for taking the easy way out and making my dogs so fearful of me that they obey anything to make the pain stop. I love this line.."Would you shock/jerk your kids around!?"
Lol.
If I didn't think it was mildly funny I think I'd get so mad I'd choke some people for the nonsense crap they spout about these things.
I've been a member of a primarily pet oriented board for a number of years. I joined that particular forum to comment on a post that specifically said the majority of police canine trainers knew only one method of training; Yank and Crank". The thread was full of "oh yeah, I've heard that etc. I took exception to that and challenged each negative poster to speak in specifics, not what they had heard. Stories were generally ones that were told by a friends 3rd cousin who had heard the story from their great uncle who talked to a guy who saw it personally while delivering a pizza or something of that nature.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.
Lmao! Michael..Lock em in the crate I say! Much easier. Leashes? Yeeeahh baby. Don't touch the candy or you get yanked on your butt. They'll learn fast.
David..did they even listen to you in the long run? I can get them to admit things, but then they make up more excuses.
I can only imagine Heather. All I can think is that they truly don't know too much about it, because if they did they wouldn't be saying that.
Years ago, I tried using a Gentle leader collar, and you know what?
I didn't work because my dog spent nearly the whole time trying to get it off her nose! I use the prong and dominant collar as a back up. The best things I ever bought for walking.
Not that there is anything wrong with other forums whatsoever, but I get all the information here on LB I could need and I learn something new almost every single day.
The forum members here are some of the most accomplished and knowledgeable about such a vast array of subjects....
I just never thought about any other forum. Also, I have never received any bad advice here either.
Leerburg forum and it's members are the best in my opinion!
Oh I know. I'm the most comfortable here. It's just sometimes I visit other forums just for kicks.
Yeah, I can agree that a prong for walking is THE easiest way ever to get your dog to stop acting like a train. A friend of mine has an out of control 9 month old that knows no bounds. She constantly pulls, the kind of pulling where they lower their body and scratch up the ground, I could hear her back claws tearing into the carpet.
I offered to let them borrow one of my prong collars and show them how to fit it but his mom freaked out and said that's cruel.
Well..they can continue dealing with that then. No problem here!
It is too bad that they didn't even let you show them how it works and that it is actually not cruel at all.
I bet that she doesn't understand how the collar works, but it will be her loss and frustration as she gets pulled down on the ground one day!
The reason I changed to the prong was that when my female who is very interested in birds and squirrels took me for a "ride" one day. That was the first and the last day of that behavior!LOL!
All I can imagine is...."just wait....." LOL!

simple solution is to ask to see vids of their dogs in an obedience exercise and then post one of yours
Hell, I could bring em over, put their wild mutt in the other room and show them how well mine can listen. Give it a year or so and I bet they'll have a real problem on their hands. She sleeps in bed with them..has no crate and is allowed on furniture. Constantly chews stuff up. Is never exercised or even walked. Recently she's started humping people in the family. When I went over there to visit she was constantly in my face, scratching and jumping and bowling me over, trampling and chasing their cats..and trying her hardest to get at the puppy I am trying to socialize by taking with me everywhere. Needless to say there were no interactions between the dogs and mine was held very clear out of reach.
I told them everything I'd do it it were my dog and they didn't like it ( She can't sleep anywhere but with me because she chews more stuff at night when we're not up! Can't lock her anywhere because she screams-they let her out when she threw a fit and created a monster ). So it's not my problem. Lol.
