I had to find a way to get Kasey exercise without walking today - I have a headache and don't feel like going out! But he felt fine and wanted to play ball, so I took an old sheet towel (the big size towels), and wrapped his ball all up in it and set it in the middle of the room. I had him on a down stay watching while I made the ball disappear in the towel, then said "ok". He had a great time trying to get that ball out that towel! He whipped the towel around, and pawed at till he got that ball out! And then, over and over, he kept putting that ball back on the towel and looking at me like he was saying, "put it back in again!". A half hour later, and he was all worn out with all the mental and physical play! Cheaper than one of those wooden puzzles I don't want to spend $50 on!

That is good thinkin Lori! Yes, I have had those days when either I am not feeling well or the weather is so bad.
Today was not one of those days. It snowed here in Dallas and it is still snowing now! Good grief, we don't even own a shovel, 8 inches and counting!
Anyhow, both my dogs love the snow, so they got to chase and play in it several times today.
I couldn't even get them to come to me, to come in, they were having so much fun! I had to physically go out and grab one by the scruff and take her in!
I might have to try the towel game when all this snow turns my yard to mud!!!
PS. I love all your sig photos, Casey always has that sweet smile on his face! Such a good lookin dog!

Joyce, we took Kasey with us to the Sierra's last spring when there was still snow - he did exactly what your dogs did today! We, of course, don't get snow here in So. CA, so it was the first time he'd been in it, and he just loved it! I don't envy you with the eventual mud though!

Ooo, the Sierra's, that sounds so beautiful and a place I would love to visit!
Both dogs are at my feet, sleeping after the full day of chase and romp in the snow!
But, you are so right Lori, the mud is coming...and I am almost positive we will have to re-seed or sod much of our yard as they have done a real job on the grass.
Has it been really rainy where you live? My mother in law lives in Laguna beach and said they have been getting lots of rain.

i put a tshirt over my dog.. and she finds it somewhat entertaining in trying to get out of it... think 'houdini dog'...
oh, and she punches me with it when she's out, like 'put me back in so i can escape from it again...!'
i've yet to discover the science behind this one. (and i dont remember how we figured it out).

I have been known to take a small carboard box cut a tiny hole in it and put a little food in it and then tape it shut within an inch of its life. It is quieter than buster cube and accomplishes the same thing.
Plus he gets to happily shred it into bits which adds a good half hour to the entertainment for him.

Ooooh, that box is a good idea. I've put stuff under an upside down box or the laundry basket, but that's only good for 10 seconds - taping it shut so they have to rip it up is better!

You can also do useless things like teaching them to stand on an upside down stockpot, or jump over broom sticks using chairs to hold the broom up.
The food shell game also seems to mentally tire them out, it must take a lot of focus for them not grab that food!
