Kristina, I am a starving college kid feeding raw so I use just plain old fish oil capsules. My roommate uses plain old salmon oil capsules. We get both of these at the grocery store. At some point, I'll probably order a bottle of the liquid Grizzly salmon oil but for now we just feed over the counter capsules.

It's so much easier to use the Grizzly or Bear Treat brand for dogs. They are both in a pump bottle so you just pump the right amount on their food and you don't have to either cram pills down their throat or puncture capsules and squeeze the oil out!
I put any pill I have to give my dog into a tiny bit of natural peanut butter, fish oil included. Because the peanut butter is sticky she can't spit out the pill.
Not that she would want to spit it out. In her mind once *anything* is coated in peanut butter it officially becomes a cookie.
My dog actually just cracks the capsules herself and swallows them so I haven't had to worry about cramming them or coating them in peanut butter or anything. For a little while I did poke them and pour the oil over her food but I'm able to get the capsules in the proper size and she eats them just fine herself. But I do think Lori is right, just pressing the pump down over the food would be pretty convenient/easy.

Oil gelcaps (vitamin E or fish oil) are caviar to my dogs. They usually have liquid fish oil, which they also love, but gelcaps filled with oil are very different to most dogs (at least IME) from a med.
Even the gelatin coating is desirable to them. The oil inside is just a fabulous bonus.
I'd try simply mixing it into the food and see what happens.
If there is resistance, try just piercing an end with a needle first so the scent is right there and you may never have to pierce it again.
He still spits out his Vit E capsules if I don't pierce them and pour the contents on his food. He'll even go so far as to lick any peanut butter coating off and leave the capsule untouched.
