I recently lost my very beloved and wonderful companion, Norman, 11 year old male GSD. After researching his extended pedigree as something positive during a very sad time, I have found some bloodlines that appear multiple times. I would like to find any breeders who use these bloodlines and perhaps find a new friend. I know I can't replace or replicate him, but I love his "type" and his delightful personality and traits and that's why records are kept. So, can anyone direct me to breeders who incorporate Wienerau, Kirschental, Bungalow and Arminius in their breeding program? Norman was an "older" type shepherd it appears -- large, big boned, very wide head and keen with a high ball/prey drive and a committment to taking care of me. Great with everyone and could go anywhere. Super intelligent and learned quickly. I live on a horse farm and have bred horses for the Olympic-style sport disciplines for 30years and have a strong background in knowing their bloodlines and traits. So I've tried to use that knowledge to help in my GSD research, although I realize it is not the same. I am very very lost without Norman and don't want to be long without another GSD companion (my Border Collie and Yorkie can't fill the gap). Thanks for your help. I'm in Alabama, so Southeast would be great, but I will travel. Offer a great home, will be in the house and with me around the farm and possibly do some work towards a title, I'm interested.
Thanks,
Penny Garzarek

Penny,
Or anyone else, please correct me if I'm wrong. But aren't those the names of different kennels/breeders and not individual dogs?
As kennels/breeders, they may very well have more than one or two different combos of stud x dams.
So I think Penny if you want to attempt to get the same type of lineage you need to figure out the outstanding individual dogs in the tree, ie the line breeding/s (I think).

Yes, they are different breeders/kennels, but I believe they are mostly W German lines. I would be interested in anyone breeding any one of those lines or incorporating any of them. I've seen a few kennels that seem to have some combinations, but have been a considerable distance, so I'm just trying to see what is out there. Thanks for your comments and help.

Penny, I do not personally know the woman below but she is very, very respected on this forum and has some awfully good looking pups as we speak. Even if these pups don't fit your needs, Betty might be a good place to start. Good luck on your journey in finding the next best dog.

Penny,
I must have misunderstood what you're asking.
As I understand it, all good kennel/breeders have a specific goal or vision in mind when they do a breeding. It's how they achieve that vision is what I though you were interested in.
The line breeding gives you the most influential dogs that contributed the most to the makeup your past dog (I'm sorry for your loss).
For example, say my present dog is niegh close to perfect ( YES HE IS!) and I'd like to try and find another dog of simialar makeup. Impossible of course because every single dog on the multiple sheets of paper contributed to what he is, however I'm doing to try so, looking at his father I see:
V Ron vom Ludwigseck,
Linebreeding 5 generations,
4 - 5............................................. in V Saskia vom Haus Kaiser
4 - 5............................................. in SG Ellex vom Haus Iris
3 - 4,5........................................... in V Alf vom Körnersee
For his mother, I find;
V Capri vom Hagenberg,
linebreeding 5 generations;
5 - 5............................................. in SG Nero vom Laichenbach
So if I understand this, I think I'd be looking for another dog with those dogs in the ped, ie Alfa out of Kornersee kennels. Not necessarily just Kornersee kennels, but specificly Alf from the Kornersee kennels, etc.
Gee, can someone tell me what I just said? lol

Hi Penny,
Congrats on starting your research early! The names you have mentioned are prominent kennels but the "type" of dog they were producing could of varied greatly depending on the time frame they appear in your pedigree.
Also the dogs produced can vary greatly from litter to litter depending on the breeding. For example, even if I bred to the same male, I would expect different traits from a breeding with my Annabelle then with my Raya. Does that make any sense?
If you are looking for a specific type of dog, talk to as many breeders as you can and get a feel for them. Go to clubs, find a dog you like and ask what breeder they obtained him/her from.
The most important thing I think is for you to find a breeder that you trust and one that has hands on experience with their bloodlines. The more experience and knowledge they have of relatives, the more accurately they will be able to predict type.
All of the above is just my own opinion of course.

Hmmm. Here is the pedigree information:
Sire: Heiko Vom Westruper Land x Jalk Von Der Lindenhalle (o/o Falka Von Der Lindenhalle) x Mink Vom Haus Wittfeld
Dam of Heiko: Hera Von Korbes-Fichte x Arek Von Stoffelblick - Bessi Von Der Ill-Aue
Dam: Flash Von Bauerhoffen x Cay Vom Fleischerheim x Vopo Vom Kirschental x Bianca Vom Christinen Brunnen.
Granddam: Bauernhoffen's Belle of Tara x Bauernhoffen's Black Angus - Scutari Exquisite
I thought the showlines were probably just the Bauernhoffen. His sire was a Titled Sch III and imported.
In tracing back through his extended pedigree, I found he had alot of Wienerau, Kirschental, Arminius and Bungalow, so I thought that might be what I should look for to start. I have looked at a number of websites that use those bloodlines and see a strong resemblance physically. Obviously, I don't know their temperments or traits, but would like to learn.
I have slowed down my search considerably as I try to learn what I can. I understand that those are "kennels" and will try to go back and review if these bloodlines are coming through the same dogs or not. I realize that is a bit of a longshot and the individual animal is important, but I'm looking for a starting place and any information that can help me.
Thanks for your input and understanding at this very difficult time for me. I'm not trying to recreate Norman, I've bred horses too long to think that is possible. But I do know you keep records for a reason, so I'm just looking for some common denominators and trying to learn what I can about his lineage out of respect for him and as something positive I can do. During this journey, perhaps I'll derive enough knowledge to make a good decision when I choose my next GSD.
Best,
PennyG

Penny, I can almost assure that you will. Anyone who goes about a big decision thoughtfully and thoroughly is bound to make a good decision. Keep an open mind... who knows where it might lead you.
