Does anyone have experience with using DE for either internal or external parasite control for their dogs? I've ordered some Food Grade DE for use with the chickens and am reading that it is perfectly appropriate for pretty much all critters. Now I'm curious as to if anyone here has some "on hands" experience.

yep... 2x a week with my dogs for internal. Once a week with my finches. I have not used it for fleas however. We also used to use it daily with our goats.
Cool. I'm wondering if it will be worth using as an external dust to control ticks... I use the Frontline because of the severe tick issue in our woods and would love to be able to discontinue that chemical if at all possible. Might just have to give that a try...

Sorry I don't live in tick country so I couldn't tell you. I think I've only seen maybe twelve or so ticks in my entire life. We also don't have heartworm here. But in exchange we get earthquakes, rain half the days of a year, giardia, and roundworm. So I'll call us even.
I'm told that nothing is 100% for ticks but certainly the stuff can't hurt since it works well for fleas.
Barbara, you might consider using something like Neem spray to help prevent bites from parasites. I haven't used it yet but it was recommended to me by some folks on one of my "natural pet" lists. I'll be trying it out once the weather warms up a bit.
eta: Sorry! That's a bit off topic as Neem spray would not take treat internal pests; it's more of a preventative against tick, flea, and mosquito bites.
