Has anyone on the forum used a glucosamine chondroitin supplement
with success on their dogs with Hip Dysplasia? I am thinking of
putting my 2 year old gs on it, she has moderate HD, though you
would never guess it, very active, no pain, no limping etc. Just
trying to keep the problem from sneaking in, so to speak. Can
anyone here vouch for the supplement? And the brand?
As Always
Thanks
I use synflex that is sold here and its been working really well. I also use the Yucca Intensive with it which Leerburg also sells. I have a 9 yr old with bad HD in right hip and hip replacement in the other, since switching to these products probably been a year hes been able to be off rimadyl. Although I have noticed recently hes starting to act like his leg maybe bothering him but with his age and history that is probably to be expected and a trip to the vet may be in store - but these products have helped so far
Kathy: Just finished looking up here at Leerburg the two
supplements Synflex and Yucca Intensive you mentioned. Thank
you for your quick reply. Seems this may be just what I am looking for. My gs is a happy go lucky kinda girl and shows
no outward signs of HD. However I know that as time goes by
this will change. Good Luck with your dogs. HD is a serious
problem for our 4 legged friends so " I don't want to get
started on that topic makes me so @@@ mad". Thanks again.
I recently came across this by seeing abreeder recommend it on their site. I don't know how real the testimonials are but here's the link http://www.preventionfordogs.com/
This is a multi-vit/min with unknown amounts of glucosamine, etc.
Unfortunately, proprietary formulations like this don't allow the dog owner to choose the amount of any ingredient to give the dog.
Also, my own opinion is that I'm never going to give extra trace minerals (extra meaning in addition to the diet) without knowing amounts. I'm pretty much not giving them period without an identified need, and then it would be that mineral.
I don't want to give A and D (fat-soluble vitamins) in unknown amounts.
And finally, if I want to give significant amounts of joint supplements like glucosamine, I don't want them to come with vits and mins.
Can you tell that I'm not a fan of "secret recipes"?
