In the other article i saw posted on the forum it said the girl was afraid of the dog and backed up and cried out before the attack. Doesn't excuse the dog/handler in any way but that could have triggered a response.
That's frightening stuff... i wonder what the holes in the training were? It seemed that the dog was only trained for detection and was not a duel purpose dog for bite work or anything.
"K-9s going through the Front Royal Academy periodically go through training at the airport. During training, the K-9s come to the airport in teams of 7-8 dogs with their handlers. The dogs enter one at a time for each exercise in narcotics, explosives and other contraband.
Officials say these dogs are taught to be passive and if they find something suspicious they sit and wait. They say they're not taught to be aggressive."
"It'll be interesting to see what the surveillance tapes have to say about how it came about" Quote: Randy
I wonder do they have them throughout the entire airport...encompassing all areas?
It was a Belgium MALAWA. Pronounced: Ma LA' WA ...as reported by the News 5 reporter video on the left of the screen. Should be Malinois. Leave it to the media to not get all the info correct.
I would've kicked that dog as hard as possible if it attacked my child.
At least... Something or someone attacks me or mine, I'll ask forgiveness later. I don't think too many folks here are going to sit back and wait for a handler to get things under control if the first "oust" didn't do the trick.

100% handler error.
I'm glad this kid will be alright and not that this was a marginal bite in any way at least it was not on the face. It is just unfortunate that this dog hadn't been identified as nervy or prey driven around kids before being brought into a crowded uncontrolled public setting.
