This is probably a really stupid question, but I'm learning so bear with me.
When I play with my dog and the Egge, she goes way into prey drive. More than with any other toy. Salivating, prey barking and bouncing back and forth like a maniac. If you saw it you would think I had her tied to a post!
Is playing with a toy that teases to this level building drive?
Or will it help exhaust it?
Or is it unrelated?
She doesn't seem stressed, she seems like she is having the time of her life. I'm just curious because it is quickly becoming the toy of choice, and I'm not sure I want to allow this level of excitement.

I'm learning too so I'm going to offer what comes to my mind and the more experienced will sort it out...
I would not tease her with it (I'm not saying that is what you are doing) - I would use that drive, intensity and focus on this one object to get her to do what ever it is you want to train at the moment. Sit, platz, hier, etc... I personally think you have the gold mine in this toy. I'm envious!

I too I'm not really experienced at this, but I only use toys i like for training. My rotty with mid level prey drive loves really awkward toys jolly balls and such, and i used to try to use those for play. but i found she became biased and would snub me with toys she didn't fancy, so i made those disappear and eventually she now likes training toys as much as she ever liked those other. With my dobe he will play with anything anytime so i'm a little more lax about the type of toys i allow him to become dialed in on. That's just my experience.

Unfortunately its a little too high value and exciting to use for any focus, at least at this point. Her reaction to it is kind of like the reaction she used to have if there was a cat outside the car. The teasing isn't something I intentionally do with the toy, its the nature of it. She can never pick it up or get it no matter what she does.
I only let her play with it for a few minutes a day, and only with me. Its definitely the kind of toy that could become an obsession if I let her have it all the time. Whenever she sees it she just stares at it.
Maybe when it gets to be a little old I could use it as a reward. Right now I have a feeling that it would be like the time I ran out of treats and used a little leftover chinese takeout in a session. I almost lost a finger!

Lauren, I hope Cindy sees your post; she always has good insight when it comes to obsessive behavior. I seem to recall her saying in the past that she doesn't allow any type of obsessive behviors with her dogs. But I'm not sure that this would qualify or not...
If she doesn't see it, you might send her a pm with a note to read your post and comment...(her profile will open up if you click on her name at the bottom, where the moderators are listed)

Egge is my dog's toy of choice too.
To hide it on body for training need to go shopping for maternity clothes.

I have seen my dog get like this.
Mostly for her tug, but she is insane when she see's a big stick.
I was wondering if I should let her play with them, or if it will well.. make her insane.
We haven't been letting her play with sticks as much, because she gets... well a little pissed if another dog comes near her with it. So we're thinking we're going to keep her away from sticks as much as we can.
But she's fine with the tug.
But this is a toy she can only play with us with, outside.

Just thought it was odd. I had seen this thread and when the catalog came this morning I looked and went HEY!. Thought I was being obtuse. I don't really have a dog that would LOVE it. My BCs are both nearly 11yr and finally slowing down. My Rhodesian Ridgeback is the only one I have ever met with almost no prey drive....though he is a good ratter- he is really a big layabout. And any of my more active young dogs are too small (under 20#s) to make good use of it. Cool to have one or two at the kennel maybe....as it looks like it could be disinfected and passed around the more active boarders.
