I have a corso and a Dogtra 1700 NCP (I believe it has now been replaced by the 1900?). The collar needs to be super duper tight on him to make contact and the box needs to be in just the right spot.
Some times we'll be training and he just doesn't respond to the collar, turns out the collar shifts a bit and no longer makes contact. I can have it so tight on him it practically impeeds breathing, he just has so much loose flobby skin. I think longer contacts will help us.
Question is what length should we go up to? How do you measure the contact length? Is it right from the base of the box or is only the metal part of the contact? Measuring from the box, the contacts the collar came with appear to be about 1/2". I've also seen those multi point 24h contact attachments, has any one tried those? Would getting something like that make sense or do those only work on dogs with short fur.
I’m no expert and haven’t got a clue what the 24H is but as far as fitting and adjusting, I hear your concern there. The collar needs to be placed really high on the neck, just above the jaw and behind the ears.
I found if I have my dog point his nose up, towards my face (from a stand position) you get an outstretched neck that tightens up the skin that tends to droop when the head is down or in a natural position. I’m able to get a much snugger initial fit with little to no movement.
I use the ¾ inch on extremely hairy dogs with a fair amount of neck skin and they respond perfectly in 20 – 30 range.
Ok to add to the confusion I saw this pic on the page for the Dogtra 1900

So it looks like the 1 inch probe is truly a 3/4 inch, and the original probes I have on my collar right now are basically the size of the 3/4 inch probes.. which is really more like 1/2 inch..
