Luna turned 2 last week. The puppy from Hell has finally grown
up! No more tail chasing, no more grabbing, no more foot grabs and no more occassional butt nips for attention. It wasn't easy
dealing with her but I persisted and now I guess the rewards
are slowley comming. Is everything perfect? Nope. Still have a
few issues like thunder and lightning ( didn't even occur until
a few months ago ) but were working on it. So is 2 the magic
number? Or am I kidding myself that the real Luna will again
show up ( the drive you crazy dog.)
Betty, sounds like she's maturing mentally. I found the same thing with my girl; she's now 2 1/2 and for the most part she's a pretty easy dog now, in comparison to the first 2 years.
She gets obnoxious if her exercise routine varies much, but that's my fault, not hers, if that occurs.
Lynn: I quess the hard work is paying off. And in Luna's case
it was very hard work and I'm no spring chicken so I guess it
was a little harder but well worth it.
Juliana: Hang in there!! I've been through that "insane" stage
for a long time apparently it gets better as I'm seeing that now.
I have always said that 2 is the perfect age for a dog, at least it was with my other dogs in the past. I can't wait either, I have a year and a month to go with this one!!
Marcia: Luna is also a white shepherd. Maybe it comes with the
territory. I have never had a shepherd with as much energy, drive
extremely friendly and happy go lucky, though territorial, which
I appreciate. My husband now calls her "Daddy's Big Girl" they
used to have a love hate relationship, not any more. He adores
her since she has calmed down so much. (thank goodness!!!)

I don't know... I can attest to all the obnoxious "puppy-energy-driven" behaviors finally fading around the 2 year mark, but in Oscar's case, they were all replaced with a rather rabid case of "testosterone-fueled-becoming-a-manly-man-attitude". He discovered his inner territoriality, possessiveness, and intact-male aggression... It kind of sucked - my sweet, always bouncy, big happy puppy up and turned into a total @$$! But it forced me to step up and learn how to handle him - correctly - (I may never have found Leerburg had things not played out that way) and I consider that a very good thing.
He finally really mellowed out around 3... and now that he's nearly 5 (and I've spent the last few years training both of us), I think we understand each other pretty darn well... though we'll always be a work in progress...
Natalya: We also are a work in progress. The best thing that
happened was that Luna finally learned to stop mouthing. She
was awful and she hurt. She had no idea how much pressure she
was using. Now she nose butts ya! No teeth. This was our longest
and most difficult battle ever!!!!! So glad thats over. She finally seems to get it.
