acclimated to people + hungry = predation this is sadly not the first documented kill by wolves in North America although they are very rare. Honestly this could have been prevented through hunting, animal control, waste cleanup, and hazing. These wolves were well documented to have been rummaging through garbage in this town.
What we will very likely see in the next few weeks by the vested interests is that it will be rumored that these are wolf hybrids or loose dogs, the stupid claim that this poor teacher shouldn't have been there in the first place like the event a few years ago involving another hiker, but very likely you won't see a push to pick up trash, secure the town landfill, effective wildlife control zones being set up, and a push to responsibly manage this pack.
I submit that attacks on humans by deer are more frequent than attack by wolves.
And yes, I think it's more than likely this was a case of wild dogs or hybrids.
If wolves have a food supply they are not going to be within 50 miles of a human.
And human is not on their menu.....ever. Though if one were silly enough to challendge a pack over a meal, uh well the odds aren't too good for you.

beg to differ, reports of wolves feeding on battlefield corpses in europe is common.
