As stated in the title, I want to learn about dogs. I am young (53) and disable. Been around GSD all my life. Now I have some time on hand to devote to learning. I would love to get to know all I can about the pup that is cumming into my life. There is so much junk out there. any good school for suggestions, if it is even possible for me. I am in NC. Thanks for your input. Dan

Hi Danilo, Welcome to the forum. When are you getting your new pup?
My advice is to read every bit of information on this site about puppies, house breaking, marker training, crate training, etc... There is a wealth of information which is free and some wonderful DVD's if the budget allows.
You have definitely come to the right place to learn!
What are your plans for your dog? Will he/she be a companion dog or are you hoping to get into any of the sports?
Rut roh... time to get either the eyes or brain checked, or perhaps both. I looked at the "11" as number of posts and "read" it as a 1... Sheesh... I love publically stepping on my twinkie!!
I hear the Michael Ellis school is great!
I would start ordering the videos that Ed sells and start with those.
They sell them in nifty packages too.
I'd Get the pack that has the puppy 8 wks to 8 months, the pack leadership one, and the obedience one first.
Then specialize from there!
Hi Barbara, Connie, and willie. Yes I have been buying at least ten or a number close to that of dvd's from Ed. and I do play those over and over. And Yes, I also train a dog in the sport of schutzhund, with good satisfaction on my part until I got hurt. The void that not having my puppy with me, has cause me to want to venture out once again. The new pup will be here the beginning of next month. My old pup had good focus thru food and prey drive. I am also bless to have a good schutzhund club I will joined again. Barbara, I did not understand your second post. All I want is to have a good dog that I will treat right and he be happily train. This pup if he got what it takes will be in the sport.

Oh, I am still a newbie compare to how long you guy's have been posting, Connie, one thing I know from been around the club for about two years, and even Ed say's it. there is a lot of advice. so that was one of the reason I want to learn what really works. And to have a dog that love training and does not have that compulsion look while on the ground. Dan
