Looking for opinions on de-shedding treatments, hoping someone will tell me they work.
Ripley and I are visiting friends this weekend. We're going to a house with white carpeting and furniture. I bathed and dried him with a force dryer last night, but not a lot of hair came out. I'm in a bit of a panic.
The furminator de shedding solution in combination with the tool works pretty well. I take Tasha to the DIY groomer and use the whole system plus the dryer on high. It definitely seems to make a difference.
I put a de-shedding solution on him AFTER his bath and then I let it soak on him for 20 minutes. At this point if I run my fingers through his fur, undercoat just falls right off. BEFORE rinsing, I hit him with the force dryer and use it to blow out all the loose hair until he's almost dry. Then I rinse him really good using one of the zoom-groom brushes made by Kong. Then I force-dry him again. Once he's completely dry I use the furminator. I usually get so much fur off of him when I do this that he looks like he's lost 10 pounds. I think the key is letting the de-shedding solution soak on him and then force-drying with it still on his coat. This is how our groomers do it and they taught me. He might drop a little bit of fur in the next couple of days as a residual from the treatment and then he's usually ok to ride in the car without blankets on the seats!
And I just use the salon force-dryers at Petco. Not sure what brand they are but I'd kill to have my own! Do you have any groom shops nearby that have Self-Service?
No, and I can't get there any way, My knees are being rebuilt...
I was going to just spend 150.00 and get a cheep one.
They have them....I just don't know which brand is the best.
Thanks for the link for the deshed stuff.
my husband ,groomer, uses the k9 11 dryer dual motor and really likes it. It is pricey though 300-400 dollars. I like to use the mars coat king to remove undercoat before bathing. Good equipment just cost more.
Are the shampoos safe? I've wondered how they work.
Meredith--I know the service dogs here wear t-shirts when they go into the hospitals to decrease the amount of fur flying around. I put one on Maya one time, and she looked pretty pitiful.

I've promised Ripley that I will never make him wear clothes or costumes. I'm sticking to it.
