Well, my new puppy, Buttercup is a dream, everything I hoped for. Good drive, boundry trained quickly, he can even go 6- 7 hours in a crate at night without an accident. Except for one little thing...
He submission pees with me every time I pick him up. Alot - like " I gotta change my clothes" amount each time. It was pretty embarrassing at the Vet's today as I stood there with a urine soaked T shirt and pants leg after I lifted him up to the exam table ( and I had made sure he pee'd before we went to the Vets). He does this every time I pick him up out of his crate ( at my bedside ) to take him out. He *never* does this when my wife lifts him.
He's gotten no harsh corrections from me or has had any events that have upset him. I have never had a puppy do to this to a solitary family member before.
Any idea of the source of this problem? The Vet ran a urine specimen, it was clean. And he has no physical problems on exam. I'm at a loss here for an explanation.

I wouldn't worry aobut submissive peeing in a puppy - yours is still pretty young. Generally it is just because they are a puppy and puppies are submissive by nature of being a puppy. Picking a dog up is a bit of a show of dominace to a dog and he is just showing a litle submission to you. This doesn't mean a dog is submissive and going to grow up into a wimp or anything, it is just puppy survival. He probably does it to you and not your wife because you are the one that does the most with him and do the most of the dog care. I have been drenched many a time by dogs that grew into very confident dogs. They do grow out of it - now if he was cocking his leg on your ankle and shooting you the look at this age - then you might be in for a few problems.....

Blitz went through it too. He would only urinate on my female roomate, who hardly ever touched him at all, and NEVER corrected him. Man would he ever let loose on her He was also 'letting go' right after being outside. He did outgrow it, as I am sure buttercup will as well.
Not much consolation for the wet clothes I know...
Is there a reason you have to lift him to take him outside? Can you place his crate at floor level and just leash the booger? Or does he do it when you approch him as well?

Will,
Winnie does it when she approaches one of my cats! Funny thing is... she is the only dog Tom(the cat) will have anything to do with, he fights (and wins) with the rest of them.
I'm sure that as she gets bigger all of this will change!

Yep Will looks like the ole' alpha roll worked on Buttercup when I did it to him (just kidding). I wouldn't worry about it. It's a common thing. I know of one Doberman that did it til he was five months old but when he grew up he was one tough cookie. And he kicked the asses of everyone who had made fun of him Just ask Cindy

And no...you can't have him back!

Will, Just a thought. Buttercup was raised by Cindy. Slapped around by Karmen. Now you say he doesn't do this with your wife. He likes the ladies more than he likes you!

But seriously, I would just not pick him up if at all possible right now...Rio (his sister that I kept) doesn't pee when I pick her up but when Ed or my dad lean over her or pick her up....whiz city!
